Our brand new Dentsply Sirona X-Smart® Pro+ endo motor
Focusing today on root canal treatment (RCT), we have recently invested in the very latest in root canal treatment technology. The Dentsply Sirona X-Smart® Pro+ endo motor is the cutting edge of root canal technology. Designed to deliver the very best outcomes in root canal treatment, it is a silent, brushless motor, making the treatment experience comfortable for the patient. It features an auto reverse function; when a pre set torque is reached, the motor auto reverses the file to prevent file fracture. Also incorporated is something called an Apex Locator, which allows the clinician to accurately gauge when the end of the root is reached, reducing the need for as many x-rays.
Our clinicians are trained in endodontic treatment and maintain their skills with ongoing training and continued professional development.
A recent clinical audit by Dr. Georgina Gwynne showed a 98% success rate for her root canal treatments. Dr. Georgina Gwynne and Dr. Lily Webb both have a particular interest in root canal treatment.
One of the defining parts of root canal treatment is achieving a “coronal seal”, which means that bacteria are unable to re-enter the root canal system from the top of the tooth. Following root canal treatment we often place a filling called a Nayyar Core, which is a very strong composite resin filling placed down the tops of each of the canals to seal the root canal treatment. A “cuspal-coverage restoration”, such as a crown or overlay is then indicated to structurally support the tooth for a long-term survival.
Root canals have historically had bad press, and a reputation for being painful. In our experience, and with modern day anaesthetics, we are able to make this a completely painless procedure in the vast majority of cases.
