‘Prevention is better than cure’
We all know this famous phrase which remains the fundamental principle of today’s healthcare. Moreover, prevention is not just better than cure it is also cheaper than treatment.
So, what can be done to maintain your natural beauty? The answer is simply to apply SPF (Sun Protection Factor) cream throughout the year.
How to choose the right sunscreen?
There are two different types of rays known as UVB and UVA. The UVB rays are not as strong in winter as in summer and therefore will not cause sunburn on cold wintery days.
However, UVA rays are present all year round and can cause cell damage resulting in premature ageing, such as dark spots, fine lines, and dry/dull-looking skin if it is not protected by SPF cream. Therefore, HFA would recommend using a SPF 50 cream during the summer and use SPF 30 during the winter. Another factors to bear in mind include your skin type and lifestyle.
There are three different types of sunscreen available to buy:
- Mineral or Physical (containing zinc oxide and titanium oxide) works by reflecting UV light away;
- Chemical is a combination of active ingredients that absorb the UV light and convert it into non-damaging light;
- A combination of both physical and chemical.
The main and most important thing is applying SPF every day as a last step of your skincare routine before putting the makeup on.
